Pentwater Capital Faces Securities Fraud Lawsuit Over Avis Stock Squeeze

Investors who held Avis Budget Group securities between February 2025 and April 2026 are being sought for a class action lawsuit against Pentwater Capital Management. The litigation centers on allegations that the investment firm and its CEO, Matthew Halbower, manipulated the market to inflate their own holdings.

Pentwater Capital Faces Securities Fraud Lawsuit Over Avis Stock Squeeze

The lawsuit, filed by the Rosen Law Firm, alleges that Pentwater Capital orchestrated a deliberate short squeeze to drive up the value of Avis stock. By March 2026, Pentwater held an approximate 51% economic interest in Avis through a combination of equity and cash-settled swaps. According to the complaint, the firm leveraged this position through aggressive purchasing, triggering extreme volatility that forced short sellers to cover their positions, further fueling the price surge.

Those who purchased Avis securities during this period are eligible to participate in the class action. To serve as a lead plaintiff, investors must file a motion with the court by September 29, 2026. While the lawsuit is active, no class has been certified; investors remain free to retain their own counsel or participate as absent members without serving in a leadership role. Interested parties can reach out to Phillip Kim at the Rosen Law Firm for further documentation.
