With a customer base now reaching 2.94 million, ueno bank has captured roughly 63% of Paraguay’s adult population. The institution closed the first half of 2026 with its strongest financial performance to date, buoyed by a surge in corporate lending and significant backing from international development finance partners.

ueno bank Posts Record First-Half Growth Amid Paraguayan Expansion

Since its market entry in 2021, the bank has integrated over 1.2 million previously unbanked individuals into the formal financial system. This rapid scaling, supported by a universal banking license, has solidified its position as the country’s leader in transaction volume and card issuance. The growth trajectory was further bolstered by a USD 350 million international bond issuance—the largest of its kind for a Paraguayan bank—alongside USD 171 million in new credit facilities.

Capital strength was reinforced by an USD 88 million increase to the base, including a USD 17 million injection from strategic shareholder OTP Bank Plc. International partnerships played a critical role in this expansion: the Development Bank of Austria (OeEB) provided its inaugural Paraguayan investment of USD 20 million to support women-led enterprises and sustainable finance, while the eco.business Fund matched that commitment to drive green economy projects. OTP Bank also deepened its stake in parent company U Holdings to USD 47 million, signaling continued confidence in the bank's role within Paraguay’s evolving economic landscape.
