SCU Launches Living Well Column to Bridge Health Science and Daily Life

The Southern California University of Health Sciences is debuting a monthly educational series, Living Well, aimed at translating complex clinical research into accessible guidance for the public. The inaugural installment dissects the physiological toll of chronic stress, moving beyond emotional symptoms to address systemic bodily impacts.

SCU Launches Living Well Column to Bridge Health Science and Daily Life

The first entry, titled "Why Stress Feels Worse Than Ever—and What it Does to the Body," examines how modern pressures disrupt functions ranging from digestion and immunity to sleep and pain management. Russell Greenfield, MD, a faculty member in the university's Doctor of Whole Health Leadership Program, notes that the brain perceives pressure as a tangible threat, triggering survival mechanisms that create measurable biological changes.

This initiative aligns with the Whittier-based institution's broader "Whole Health" philosophy, which prioritizes the interconnectedness of mental, physical, and environmental factors over the isolated treatment of symptoms. By leveraging its diverse faculty, the university intends to provide actionable strategies for long-term health, moving away from fragmented care models. Future columns are expected to address a variety of wellness topics, utilizing the university's century-long history of integrative medical education to offer evidence-based advice for both individuals and families.
