Sunwest Bank Expands Rocky Mountain Footprint with Colorado Acquisition

Sunwest Bank has finalized the purchase of former MidWestOne and Bank of Denver branches from Nicolet National Bank, marking a strategic push into the Rocky Mountain region. The move integrates these Colorado locations into the Sandy, Utah-based lender’s existing network as part of a broader plan to scale its commercial banking services.

The acquisition allows Sunwest Bank to introduce its full suite of treasury management, commercial lending, and corporate financial solutions to a wider Colorado client base. By absorbing these branches, the bank aims to leverage its model of local decision-making and relationship-focused service to capture market share among regional entrepreneurs and businesses.

President and CEO Carson Lappetito noted that the transaction reinforces the bank's long-term commitment to the Colorado market. Robert Faver, the bank's Chief Banking Officer, added that the investment is designed to foster growth in areas where relationship banking remains a key differentiator. With over $4.0 billion in assets, the privately held institution continues to expand its reach across states including California, Arizona, Idaho, and Florida, positioning itself as a challenger to traditional banking structures through its focus on capital stability and direct access to leadership.
