Octapharma to Build $1.5 Billion Manufacturing Hub in South Carolina

The project represents one of the largest private biomedical investments in South Carolina’s history. By establishing domestic production of critical care and trauma products, the company plans to reduce reliance on overseas supply chains, addressing both medical demand and national security concerns. The site at Palmetto Research Park will leverage the state’s existing logistics networks and deep-water ports to manage the distribution of FDA-approved therapies.

Wolfgang Marguerre, CEO and Chairman of Octapharma, noted that the expansion is essential to supporting the company’s growing product pipeline. The facility will be integrated with the company's existing network of over 200 US-based plasma donation centers, effectively shortening the distance between raw material collection and final manufacturing. Local officials and state leadership, including Governor Henry McMaster, collaborated on the development, citing the project as a validation of the region’s growing life sciences ecosystem and workforce readiness.
