Senators Challenge Trump Media Over Paid Access to Presidential Posts

Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff have petitioned the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate whether Trump Media’s new premium data feed violates federal law. The service, which offers trading firms priority access to Donald Trump’s social media updates, has sparked concerns over market fairness and potential conflicts of interest.

Senators Challenge Trump Media Over Paid Access to Presidential Posts

The proposed Truth API, set for an August 1 launch, allows firms to pay up to $100,000 monthly for the fastest access to posts from the platform's most influential accounts. Because Trump’s digital communications have historically triggered rapid market fluctuations, critics argue that selling preferential speed creates an uneven playing field for retail investors. Warren and Schiff labeled the initiative an abuse of office, suggesting that the monetization of information from a public figure undermines the integrity of financial markets.

While the company has already secured undisclosed clients for the feed, legal experts remain divided on the practice. Although technology platforms frequently sell data access to institutional traders, the unique status of the former president’s account complicates the issue. Lawmakers highlighted that Trump has previously used Truth Social to endorse specific stocks, such as Citigroup and Intel, raising questions about the potential for insider trading or market manipulation. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins has acknowledged receipt of the inquiry, though the agency has not yet signaled its next steps.
