Bloomberg Acquires Canoe Intelligence to Bridge Public and Private Markets

Bloomberg has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Canoe Intelligence, an AI-powered platform specializing in private markets data automation. The deal aims to integrate Canoe’s document processing capabilities with Bloomberg’s infrastructure, seeking to provide institutional investors with a unified view across both public and private asset classes.

Bloomberg Acquires Canoe Intelligence to Bridge Public and Private Markets

The acquisition marks a significant escalation in Bloomberg’s multi-year effort to modernize private markets, an area historically hindered by fragmented data and manual reporting processes. Canoe, which processes over 1.5 million documents monthly for more than 500 institutional clients, serves as the connective tissue between general partners and limited partners. By folding this technology into its existing suite—which already tracks three million private companies and 50,000 funds—Bloomberg intends to offer a seamless investment lifecycle, ranging from pre-investment screening to post-investment portfolio oversight.

Bloomberg CEO Vlad Kliatchko noted that the firm intends to apply the same transparency standards to private assets that it brought to public markets decades ago. For Canoe, the move provides the scale necessary to expand its reach, following a successful integration with Bloomberg PORT earlier this year. The combined entity will leverage Bloomberg’s agentic AI interface, ASKB, to allow users to generate insights across a broader data set, normalized by identifiers such as the Financial Instrument Global Identifier (FIGI). The transaction, supported by Canoe’s institutional backers including Blackstone, Carlyle, and Goldman Sachs Alternatives, is expected to fundamentally reshape how firms analyze their total portfolio risk and capital allocation.
