METLEN Secures Landmark Gallium Deal to Boost European Supply Chain

METLEN has finalized a long-term supply agreement with a leading US technology company for 25% of the annual gallium output from its upcoming Greek facility. This deal marks a pivotal shift in the European critical raw materials market, as the continent works to reduce its reliance on concentrated global supply sources.

METLEN Secures Landmark Gallium Deal to Boost European Supply Chain

The agreement positions the Greek industrial plant, Aluminium of Greece, as a central hub for the production of gallium—a material vital to AI, renewable energy, telecommunications, and defense systems. By establishing integrated production, METLEN becomes the first European company to secure such a commercial contract, effectively creating a new industrial value chain within the EU.

Executive Chairman Evangelos Mytilineos described the deal as a milestone for both Greece and the broader European market. The project has already received significant institutional backing, including recognition from the European Commission as a Strategic Project under the Critical Raw Materials Act and financing from the European Investment Bank. Following years of R&D, the material has successfully passed rigorous qualification testing with global technology partners, signaling a shift toward more resilient and localized supply chains for critical industrial components.
