SK hynix Reports Record Profits as AI Demand Drives Massive Growth

SK hynix has shattered its previous financial records, posting 79.3187 trillion won in revenue and 60.5426 trillion won in operating profit for the second quarter of 2026. The surge, fueled by an insatiable global appetite for AI-related high-performance memory, marks a historic milestone as first-half revenue surpassed 100 trillion won.

SK hynix Reports Record Profits as AI Demand Drives Massive Growth

The company’s performance highlights a fundamental shift in the semiconductor market, where AI-driven demand for HBM and high-capacity eSSD products has sent both DRAM and NAND flash prices climbing. Year-over-year, revenue surged 257%, while operating profit jumped 557%, supported by a massive 76% operating margin. This liquidity has bolstered the firm's balance sheet, pushing cash holdings to 88 trillion won and net cash to 69.4 trillion won.

To secure long-term stability, the company has finalized multi-year supply agreements with roughly 10 strategic partners. These contracts are designed to address a growing structural need for AI memory as services evolve into more complex, agentic tasks. Alongside these deals, SK hynix is pushing ahead with production expansion, including the M15X facility and the upcoming Yongin Phase 1 cleanroom, while maintaining strict discipline over capital expenditures.

Technological momentum remains centered on the HBM4 roadmap. Having commenced mass shipments, the company is refining its 10nm-class 6th generation process to stay ahead of competition. In the NAND sector, production of 321-layer products is set to reach half of total capacity by the end of the year, signaling a pivot toward high-performance, high-density storage solutions as the company prepares for further infrastructure investment through 2027.
