Founded in 1949, the state-run institute manages the country’s diverse energy matrix, which spans geothermal, wind, solar, and hydroelectric resources. By aligning with ISASecure, a subsidiary of the International Society of Automation, the utility intends to upgrade its operational technology security maturity. The partnership will focus on securing SCADA systems, implementing robust network segmentation, and enhancing incident response protocols across the national grid.
Erick Obregón Navarro of the utility’s cybersecurity division noted that adopting these international benchmarks is essential for protecting industrial networks and reducing the overall attack surface of the country’s energy systems. Mark DeAngelo, program manager at ISASecure, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, noting that the integration of such standards is vital for the resilience of critical infrastructure. The utility joins a global ecosystem of energy and automation leaders that includes Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Schneider Electric in prioritizing standardized cybersecurity validation.
