Regeneron Faces Investor Lawsuit Following Melanoma Drug Trial Failure

A federal securities class action lawsuit now targets Regeneron Pharmaceuticals after the company’s failed Phase 3 clinical trial for a melanoma treatment triggered an $11 billion market value collapse. Investors allege the company masked critical flaws in the drug's performance while promoting it as a potential blockbuster.

Regeneron Faces Investor Lawsuit Following Melanoma Drug Trial Failure

The litigation centers on the clinical trial of Fianlimab in combination with Libtayo, a regimen Regeneron touted as a breakthrough for metastatic or locally advanced melanoma. Throughout the class period—spanning August 1, 2025, to May 15, 2026—management repeatedly expressed confidence in the study’s primary endpoint of progression-free survival. When trial event rates began to decline, company executives characterized the trend as a sign that the treatment arms were performing exceptionally well.

Contradicting these claims, the lawsuit asserts that Regeneron’s statistical assumptions were fundamentally flawed from the outset. By late April 2026, the company quietly adjusted its trial protocol, a move analysts suspected was an attempt to salvage the study's failing statistical significance. On May 15, 2026, Regeneron finally disclosed that the trial had failed to reach its primary endpoint, leading to a sharp decline in share price. Hagens Berman, the firm leading the investigation, argues that executives intentionally withheld the reality of the drug's lack of differentiation from standard therapies to maintain investor optimism. Shareholders who suffered substantial losses are now being invited to join the class action, with a lead plaintiff deadline set for September 14, 2026.
