Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals at CME Group, framed the weekend activity as a response to the reality that global events do not pause for the weekend. The launch of the 1-Ounce Gold futures, which debuted in January 2025, aims to provide a regulated, right-sized vehicle for investors seeking to manage their gold exposure at any time of the day or week.
Partners like Robinhood Derivatives have already integrated the service to provide real-time digital access to the metal. Adam Hickerson, Senior Director and Chief Operating Officer at the firm, emphasized the importance of offering regulated contracts that operate across any time zone. This expansion arrives as CME Group reports record-breaking growth in its metals business, which saw an average of 1.3 million contracts traded daily in the first half of 2026, marking a 55% increase compared to the previous year.
