DifGen Cleared for Clinical Trials of Single-Injection Breast Cancer Drug

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized DifGen Pharmaceuticals to begin clinical development of DFGN-101, an intramuscular injection intended for advanced or metastatic breast cancer. This regulatory green light allows the company to bypass traditional clinical endpoint efficacy studies, streamlining the path for a more patient-friendly treatment regimen.

DifGen Cleared for Clinical Trials of Single-Injection Breast Cancer Drug

DFGN-101 aims to improve the standard of care by condensing the required dosage into a single injection, effectively halving the current requirement of two shots per treatment visit. The FDA’s decision follows a review of the company's Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls data, alongside pilot pharmacokinetic results that demonstrated a profile comparable to existing reference products.

Under the established development pathway, DifGen will now initiate preclinical toxicology studies in rat and rabbit models, followed by a Phase 1 pharmacokinetic trial. By eliminating the need for extensive clinical efficacy testing, the company intends to accelerate the delivery of this complex generic formulation to market. This development underscores the Miramar-based firm's strategy of targeting specialized, technically demanding pharmaceuticals to provide more efficient alternatives for patients.
