Ontario International Airport upgrades checkpoints to handle passenger surge

The Terminal 2 expansion represents a strategic shift in airport operations, prioritizing flow efficiency alongside safety. By relocating the secure exit corridor to the west, officials created the necessary footprint for two additional screening lanes. These improvements are coupled with advanced document verification hardware, upgraded CCTV networks, and dynamic digital signage designed to reduce bottlenecks during high-traffic windows. Similar upgrades are currently underway in Terminal 4, which will add another screening lane and a modernized exit corridor to the facility.

Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, emphasized that these infrastructure investments are intended to sustain the airport’s reputation for convenience as demand continues to climb. The facility, which currently serves as a hub for nonstop service to destinations across the U.S., Mexico, Central America, and Taiwan, remains one of the fastest-growing commercial airports in the country. These technical enhancements serve as a critical bridge between the airport's 2016 transition to local ownership and its long-term capacity goals.
