By leveraging its global manufacturing footprint, the Group aims to transition from building hardware to creating autonomous systems that optimize entire environments. This evolution is underpinned by a series of high-profile collaborations, most notably with NVIDIA to develop a Robot Reference Platform and with Waymo to advance autonomous driving capabilities.
Scaling the Physical AI Ecosystem
To accelerate this shift, the Group is expanding its robotics division, Boston Dynamics. The company plans to deploy humanoid robots like Atlas in production facilities, including the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia, with a goal of reaching an annual production capacity of 30,000 units by 2028. This effort is supported by a significant financial commitment to domestic infrastructure in Korea, including a 9 trillion KRW investment in the Saemangeum AI Valley and a broader 42 trillion KRW initiative for advanced industrial hubs in the Yeongnam region. By providing standardized hardware and software to researchers and startups, Hyundai seeks to foster an open ecosystem that bridges the gap between theoretical AI research and large-scale industrial application.
