Stan Lee’s Secret Superhero Universe Heads to Auction

A collection of over 50 original characters and stories created by Stan Lee between 1999 and 2001 is hitting the market, marking the only franchise of Lee-developed material not currently held by Marvel. Hilco Global has been tapped to manage the sale of this expansive, largely untapped intellectual property portfolio.

The offering, dubbed the Omniverse Collection, stems from Lee’s post-Marvel work at Stan Lee Entertainment, an early animation studio designed for the internet era. The portfolio includes not only the characters themselves but also a vast archive of scripts, development materials, and episodes that constitute a connected entertainment universe. Former Marvel Entertainment executive Shirrel Rhoades, who is collaborating with Hilco on the sale, described the assets as a cohesive, forward-thinking vision rather than a loose assortment of ideas.

Hilco Global’s Eric Hurwitz characterized the sale as one of the most significant intellectual property offerings of the decade. The firm intends to leverage its valuation expertise to place these assets with a buyer capable of expanding the legacy of the late comic book icon. While specific details regarding individual characters remain under wraps, prospective buyers are currently being invited to register their interest through the firm’s IP Services practice.
