Kenji Kamiyama Launches New Gundam Era with RG Project

The project represents a departure from established Gundam timelines like the Universal Century. Kamiyama, known for his work on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, teamed with science-fiction writer Toh EnJoe to build a world defined by the arrival of an extraterrestrial ecosystem. Following the discovery of three revolutionary technologies—Gravity Control, FTL Communication, and Cognitive Materialization—humanity faced an existential threat when the source, an Autonomous Interstellar Object, turned hostile. By the year A.A. 45, the surviving population lives in exile on the Moon and in space colonies, unaware of a life without the ongoing orbital war.

Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO serves as the origin point for this saga, following a war orphan named Ray Azumi, voiced by Takeo Otsuka, who pilots the titular Gundam ZERO. The narrative bridge between the anime and the game GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT allows for a cohesive experience where the events of the show directly shape the reality of the game. Produced by SOLA ANIMATION with character designs by Miyako Takasu and mechanical designs by Eiichi Shimizu, the initiative aims to redefine the core elements of the Gundam franchise while maintaining the series' signature focus on conflict and human choice.
