Royal Caribbean Advances Plans for Mahahual K'iin Community Center

Under the name Mahahual K'iin—meaning the sun of Mahahual—a new community hub is set to rise in the heart of the Mexican coastal town. Royal Caribbean Group confirmed plans to relocate and expand the existing community facility, aiming to provide broader access to education, recreation, and local gathering spaces for residents.

The project builds upon a community space that has served the region since 2014. By shifting to a more central location along the Carretera Cafetal-Mahahual, the development intends to accommodate a wider range of programs and neighbors. The design includes flexible workshops for education and community-led events, alongside outdoor facilities featuring a soccer pitch, as well as basketball and volleyball courts.

Jason Liberty, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, described the initiative as a move to turn long-term partnership into tangible action. Senaida Gómez, director of the center, emphasized that the new site reflects the collective dreams of local participants, providing safe spaces for children and families to grow. Construction is scheduled to commence once the necessary permits and approvals are secured. This development aligns with the company’s broader strategy as the operator of the Port of Costa Maya, focusing on investments that support local well-being and daily life.
