First Public Hydrogen Authority Seeks Suppliers for California Fleet

The Request for Proposals, designated as RFP 01-26, targets qualified suppliers capable of providing consistent, clean fuel for the public sector. By centralizing demand, the Authority intends to provide market certainty for producers while shielding agencies from the volatility often associated with new energy transitions. Proposals must be submitted electronically no later than August 19, 2026, at 10:00 AM PT.

Developed in coordination with the California Air Resources Board and the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development, the initiative relies on a broad coalition of transit agencies and clean energy organizations. FPH2 Chairman R. Rex Parris emphasized that the procurement represents a shift from theoretical planning to operational reality. Evaluation criteria will prioritize production capabilities, safety, cost competitiveness, and long-term reliability. This collaborative model reflects a wider effort to build a scalable hydrogen ecosystem that meets California’s aggressive zero-emission mandates.
