Maire Wins €1.3 Billion Fertilizer Plant Contract in Argentina

The facility will rise on an 80-hectare site within the Bahía Blanca Industrial Complex. Designed to produce 2.1 million tons of granular urea annually, the complex integrates a large-scale ammonia plant with two parallel ultra-low energy urea trains. The site’s proximity to Pampa’s power assets ensures direct access to critical infrastructure, including deep-water port facilities and essential gas pipelines.

Maire’s subsidiary Tecnimont will lead engineering, procurement, and commissioning, with local partner SACDE S.A. handling construction. Technology integration comes from the group’s Nextchem division, utilizing Stamicarbon’s licensing and proprietary equipment, while KBR provides the ammonia technology. The project is slated for completion in 41 months and is expected to create over 3,500 direct jobs during peak construction. Alessandro Bernini, CEO of Maire, noted that the contract represents the company’s strategic entry into the Argentine market, aimed at monetizing domestic natural gas reserves while scaling regional fertilizer output.
