US-Africa Trade Desk Shifts Focus to Supply Chain Integration

The organization unveiled the America’s Cotton initiative, designed to provide consumers with full transparency regarding the origin and manufacturing journey of their textiles. This project relies on a network of cotton farmers spanning 11 U.S. states, integrated with apparel production facilities in Mauritius, Lesotho, Madagascar, and Kenya. By consolidating these links, the program seeks to standardize the production cycle across international borders.

Beyond textiles, the desk is expanding its footprint in the agricultural sector with a new cashew processing program. By shifting final processing and packaging to recently opened facilities in Florida and Alabama, the initiative aims to retain more value within the local supply chain. These discussions coincided with broader policy debates on Capitol Hill regarding the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), specifically focusing on the third-country fabric rule. Officials emphasized that treating African nations as equal trading partners remains the most effective path toward long-term economic growth for both regions.
