CorPower Ocean achieves world-first certification for wave energy

The certification process, governed by the DNV-SE-0120 standard, spanned seven years of independent reviews covering engineering, manufacturing, and performance testing. The C4 converter demonstrated its resilience during trials involving storm waves reaching 18.5 metres. By clearing these technical hurdles, CorPower Ocean has effectively lowered the risk profile of its technology, a prerequisite for attracting the institutional investment and insurance coverage necessary for large-scale commercial deployments.

Patrik Möller, co-founder and CEO, described the milestone as the moment wave energy shifts toward becoming a proven component of the global renewable mix. The company is currently moving forward with industrial-scale wave farms in Portugal and Scotland. Industry analysts suggest this development provides a template for integrating wave power alongside wind and solar to help stabilize energy grids. With independent verification now in place, the path is open for the company to scale its operations and fulfill its objective of making ocean-based electricity a primary, cost-effective source of clean power.
