The new assessment covers flexible natural transparent pellets with a melt flow index (MFI) of 1.5-2.0. This material, derived from high-quality post-commercial bales, is increasingly used in stretch film applications where it serves as a functional alternative to virgin LDPE or LLDPE. Alongside this addition, ICIS has refined its existing price reporting for rigid natural transparent pellets (MFI 0.3-0.8) and flexible pellets (MFI 0.8-1.5) to reflect tighter industry specifications.
Matt Tudball, Senior Editor for Recycling at ICIS, noted that the packaging sector has become the dominant force in the market since the firm began tracking these prices in 2019. As brands scramble to meet regulatory obligations, the demand for high-MFI grades that offer specific technical qualities has surged. By adding this granularity, ICIS aims to help converters and FMCG brands navigate procurement decisions in an environment where regulatory compliance is rapidly reshaping material requirements.
