Verbal Beginnings Technicians to Strike Over Pay

Thirty-three behavior technicians in Rockville are set to walk off the job at 6:30 a.m. this Monday, July 20, after negotiations for a first collective bargaining agreement stalled. The Teamsters Local 639 members, who treat children on the autism spectrum, claim the company has repeatedly refused to offer fair, livable wages.

Verbal Beginnings Technicians to Strike Over Pay

The workers, stationed at the Verbal Beginnings center on Calhoun Place, contend that their current compensation fails to account for the specialized nature of their early intervention services. Despite working in one of Maryland’s most expensive counties, these technicians argue that their pay does not align with the professional demands of their roles.

Union leadership and members plan to picket the facility starting Monday morning to protest the company's stance. This strike follows a prolonged impasse in contract talks, marking a significant escalation in the dispute between the staff and Verbal Beginnings management regarding labor standards and baseline financial support.
