CAE and Saab link up to bid for Canadian Gripen training contract

The proposed collaboration combines Saab’s platform knowledge with CAE’s expertise in simulation and operational sustainment. Under the agreement, CAE would oversee the development of a training infrastructure specifically tailored to Gripen pilots and technicians, ensuring that core expertise and operational capabilities remain within Canada. Both firms are positioning this alliance as a means to foster high-tech job creation and long-term defense readiness for the Canadian Armed Forces.

Beyond domestic operations, the partners intend to pursue joint research and development initiatives for next-generation combat capabilities. Matthew Bromberg, CAE’s President and CEO, noted that the move is intended to strengthen Canada's fighter capability while providing local aviation professionals with advanced training tools. Saab CEO Micael Johansson emphasized that the partnership reflects a strategy to build sovereign capability in host nations, with potential plans to extend this collaborative model to international markets where the Gripen is deployed.
