Cognizant Targets 1,500 U.S. College Hires to Fuel AI Expansion

Cognizant plans to recruit 1,500 U.S. college graduates by the end of 2026, marking a significant push to cultivate domestic artificial intelligence talent. The initiative integrates early-career programs, apprenticeships, and a specialized engineering track to supply the technical workforce required to manage the rapid enterprise shift toward AI-driven operations.

The hiring drive encompasses Cognizant’s core technology services alongside its Belcan engineering subsidiary. A central component of this strategy is the new Frontier Engineers program, which places top-tier graduates directly into high-stakes client projects. These engineers are tasked with reconfiguring business processes and identifying areas where AI can eliminate operational friction.

CEO Ravi Kumar S positioned the recruitment effort as a long-term investment in the American technology backbone. The company currently maintains active partnerships with more than 40 U.S. institutions, including the University of Georgia, Arizona State University, and the University of Kentucky. These collaborations emphasize a mix of technical fluency and leadership training, delivered through programs like the Fusion internship and various registered apprenticeships sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Beyond technical roles, Cognizant is recruiting from diverse interdisciplinary backgrounds. By targeting first-generation students and underrepresented communities, the firm aims to build an adaptable workforce capable of navigating the changing demands of the modern workplace. This domestic expansion follows a global trend for the company, which has hired approximately 27,000 campus graduates worldwide since 2025.
