Leica Biosystems to Acquire StatLab for Pathology Expansion

Leica Biosystems, the anatomic pathology arm of Danaher, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire StatLab Medical Products from private equity firms Linden Capital Partners and Audax Private Equity. The move aims to integrate StatLab’s extensive histology portfolio into Leica’s global diagnostic network by the end of 2026.

Leica Biosystems to Acquire StatLab for Pathology Expansion

For over five decades, StatLab has supplied laboratories with tools spanning the entire histology workflow, from initial specimen collection to final slide staining. By folding these operations into its existing structure, Leica Biosystems intends to leverage the acquisition to bolster its capabilities in computational pathology and AI-driven diagnostics. The goal is to provide laboratories with the standardized, high-quality workflows necessary to scale advanced cancer detection technologies.

Gustavo Perez Fernandez, President of Leica Biosystems, noted that combining the two portfolios is intended to address complex healthcare challenges by accelerating the transition toward automated diagnostics. While the companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the deal, the acquisition remains subject to standard regulatory clearances and closing conditions. Once finalized, StatLab will operate as a component of the Leica Biosystems business unit.
