While school administrators implement bans to curb classroom distractions, the policy shift has inadvertently triggered a secondary crisis for parental peace of mind. Data from a Talker Research study commissioned by Cosmo indicates that 76% of parents believe the ability to reach a child in an emergency outweighs the negative impact of technology exposure.

Despite this pushback, parents are not advocating for unrestricted internet access. Roughly 77% of respondents prefer dedicated communication devices that provide a tether to home without the digital distractions of social media or gaming. Russell York, CEO of Cosmo, suggests that families are currently forced into a binary choice between academic focus and personal safety. The survey reveals that 38% of parents view the traditional smartphone as a "loss of innocence," yet 73% of children already possess one, including nearly half of all five-year-olds. This reliance on smartphones remains high even as parents express deep-seated concerns regarding social media's impact on self-esteem and overall mental health.
