The award marks the beginning of a $100,000 national fundraising campaign aimed at fostering academic excellence and speech and debate skills.

The scholarship program, established with founding support from American First Credit Union, was the centerpiece of a three-day convening held June 19–21. The summit, which took place at the university's Black Honors College, focused on the intersection of family stability, educational advancement, and community engagement. Andre Farr, founder of the nonprofit, emphasized that the initiative seeks to cultivate leadership qualities in students long before they enter the workforce.

During the event, university leaders and community partners gathered to discuss the role of mentorship in student development. The weekend included a Juneteenth economic exchange, panel discussions on academic excellence, and a Father’s Day celebration. With the initial $5,000 award distributed, organizers are now looking toward a 2027 expansion of the scholarship program, supported by partners including the City of Rancho Cordova, Solidigm, and SMUD. The organization plans to use the broader $100,000 effort to widen its reach to families nationwide.
