JFF Secures $40 Million Federal Grant to Scale Industrial Apprenticeships

This Pay-for-Performance initiative aims to convert employer interest into tangible hiring outcomes. With the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicting a shortfall of nearly 500,000 skilled tradespeople over the next decade, the project targets sectors currently lacking robust apprenticeship pipelines. By offering financial incentives tied to apprentice retention and career progression, JFF intends to lower the barrier for companies struggling to find specialized talent.

Maria Flynn, president and CEO of JFF, emphasized that performance-based rewards are essential for scaling training programs in high-stakes industries. To execute this mandate, JFF is spearheading a consortium of eight partners, including the Center for Energy Workforce Development, the Independent Electrical Contractors, and the University of Cincinnati. This coalition will provide direct technical support to employers nationwide, facilitating the launch of new programs and documenting best practices to sustain long-term growth in the industrial labor force.
