Accion Opportunity Fund Appoints Emily Nichols as Development Chief

Nichols transitions to the organization from Root Capital, where she served as a Senior Director overseeing institutional fundraising and marketing communications for agricultural enterprises in rural communities. Her background also includes leadership positions at World Relief, specifically managing corporate and foundation partnerships alongside multidisciplinary fundraising teams. In her new capacity, she will collaborate with the executive leadership to diversify partner engagement and bolster the long-term sustainability of the fund.

Luz Urrutia, President and CEO of Accion Opportunity Fund, cited Nichols' history of deepening donor connections as a primary driver for the hire. The organization, a certified Community Development Financial Institution, provides capital and advisory services to entrepreneurs often overlooked by traditional lending channels. Nichols noted that she intends to build upon the fund’s reputation to scale philanthropic support and further the nonprofit’s mission of creating equitable economic pathways.
