Werner Bronkhorst brings World Cup spirit to Los Angeles gallery

Amid the fervor of the Football World Cup, South African artist Werner Bronkhorst is set to debut his latest collection, Big Balls, in West Hollywood. The exhibition, opening July 9 at 8175 Melrose Avenue, captures the visceral intensity of the tournament through hyper-realistic paintings featuring hidden miniature figures.

Bronkhorst arrives in Los Angeles with a series of never-before-seen works, marking his first exhibition in the city. The artist, who commands a social media audience of 2.7 million, recently saw a previous collection sell out in 12 minutes, drawing 10,000 visitors over a three-day period. His creative process often involves integrating miniature subjects into complex, layered paint textures, a style that has gained significant cultural traction.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is From Every Corner, his largest work to date. The painting features 48 international stars, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mo Salah. This specific work will be auctioned at PHILLIPS' Modern and Contemporary Art event on July 16. Bronkhorst plans to demonstrate his process by completing an additional piece live on-site during the exhibition’s run. For the artist, the parallels between sport and canvas are clear: both demand a rigorous commitment to repetition and discipline before the final result is ever achieved.
