Mattsson steps into the role as successor to Mikael Schmidt, who will retire at the end of December 2026. Bringing over a decade of experience from his tenure at Billerud since 2013 and previous work at the law firm Cederquist, Mattsson will oversee the company’s compliance and risk management functions.
Essity CEO Ulrika Kolsrud highlighted Mattsson’s background in international operations and business law as key assets for the company’s future growth. Schmidt, a veteran of the Executive Management Team since the company’s 2017 listing, leaves behind a legacy as a trusted advisor to both the board and the firm’s leadership. Chairman Jan Gurander noted that Schmidt’s contributions as Secretary to the Board were central to the company’s organizational development during his tenure.
