Collectors Universe Faces Class Action Over Alleged Wage Violations

A new class action lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court accuses Collectors Universe, Inc. of systemic labor violations. The complaint, brought by employment firm Blumenthal Nordrehaug Bhowmik De Blouw LLP, alleges the company denied staff mandatory meal breaks and failed to provide accurate, itemized wage statements as required by California law.

Collectors Universe Faces Class Action Over Alleged Wage Violations

The litigation, registered under Case No. 30-2026-01572521-CU-OE-CXC, centers on claims that the defendant required employees to perform work off the clock without proper compensation. According to the filing, this practice deprived workers of earned wages and overtime premiums, violating California Labor Code sections 1194, 1197, and 1197.1. By allegedly keeping employees under its control during unpaid time, the company bypassed minimum wage obligations.

Beyond unpaid labor, the suit challenges the company's payroll documentation. Under California Labor Code section 226, employers must furnish accurate itemized wage statements to hourly employees. The plaintiff contends that Collectors Universe failed to include essential information in these records, obscuring the true extent of the work performed. The firm is currently seeking to represent a class of employees affected by these practices.
