D-Link Launches DCS-8610 Camera Featuring Privacy-Centric AI Fall Detection

D-Link has introduced the DCS-8610 2.5K QHD Pan & Tilt Pro, an AI-powered home camera designed to assist with elderly care while preserving personal dignity. By integrating edge-based processing, the device delivers real-time fall alerts and movement tracking without exposing sensitive visual data to caregivers or cloud services.

The device addresses a growing tension in home monitoring: the need for safety versus the desire for privacy. To bridge this gap, the DCS-8610 utilizes a Hybrid Privacy Mode that applies a dynamic mosaic mask over human figures in real time. Caregivers receive updates on posture and location through simplified outlines, ensuring that facial features and private moments remain shielded from view. This approach aligns with strict data protection standards such as GDPR, making it a viable option for independent seniors aging in place or those in assisted living environments.

Beyond privacy, the camera functions as a comprehensive safety tool. Its integrated AI detects potential falls and immediately transmits alerts to the mydlink smartphone app, accompanied by auto-person tracking to maintain visibility of the subject. The hardware supports 360-degree panoramic coverage in 2.5K resolution and offers flexible storage solutions, including local microSD support and cloud recording with a pre-record feature that captures five seconds of footage before motion is triggered. According to D-Link CEO CJ Chang, the product aims to transition home monitoring from simple visual surveillance to intelligent, responsive care. The unit is currently available for purchase through Amazon EU and other global retail channels.
