Skanska secures NOK 1.1 billion contract for Hydro aluminum plant

A new industrial landscape is taking shape in Karmøy, Norway, where Skanska has begun work on a production facility for aluminum giant Hydro. The project, valued at approximately NOK 1.1 billion, represents a major expansion of the site’s wire rod manufacturing capabilities and is slated for completion in early 2028.

The construction scope encompasses a specialized production hall equipped with furnaces and a high-capacity wire rod assembly line. Beyond the core manufacturing zone, Skanska is tasked with erecting essential supporting infrastructure, including dedicated buildings for storage, maintenance, and administrative office functions. The contract also mandates extensive civil engineering work and the integration of new systems into the existing plant's technical network.

Once operational, the site is designed to process an annual capacity of 110,000 tonnes of aluminum wire rod. Work is already underway at the Karmøy location, with the final handover scheduled for March 2028. The deal, which translates to roughly SEK 1.0 billion, will be reflected in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.
