The editorial team compiled this year's rankings by synthesizing tournament performance data, state-level fisheries research, and insights from B.A.S.S. Nation leaders. According to Editor-in-Chief James Hall, the list serves as a tribute to the country’s outdoor heritage, encouraging enthusiasts to explore local waters that range from trophy-producing Southern impoundments to the smallmouth-rich northern reaches of the St. Lawrence River.
California’s Clear Lake secured the top spot as the nation’s premier destination for trophy largemouth, followed by Texas’ Lake J.B. Thomas and New York’s St. Lawrence River. Texas dominated the state-level representation with 10 lakes in the top 100, followed by California with nine, and Florida and Michigan with seven each. The full 2026 rankings are available in the July/August issue of Bassmaster Magazine and via their digital platform.
