The removal marks the latest escalation in a patent dispute that began in late 2024. Innoscience previously sued Infineon’s Chinese subsidiaries in the Suzhou Intermediate People's Court, alleging infringement of two core GaN technology patents. On May 27, 2026, the court ruled in favor of Innoscience, awarding RMB 10 million in damages and issuing preliminary injunctions against the accused product line. Infineon attempted to challenge these orders, but the Supreme People's Court of China rejected their appeal on June 12, 2026, finalizing the prohibition.
Despite the Supreme Court's ruling, Infineon featured the restricted technology at its booth when the Shanghai trade show opened on July 1, 2026. Innoscience representatives immediately notified the Shanghai Pudong Intellectual Property Dispute People's Mediation Committee. After verifying the judicial orders and inspecting the booth, officials mandated the removal of the items. Innoscience stated that global semiconductor firms must adhere to Chinese judicial mandates, signaling that the company intends to continue aggressive enforcement of its intellectual property rights through global legal channels.
