Young Oklahoma Singer to Open America’s 250th Birthday Celebration

When a sound glitch silenced 11-year-old Ford Burget during an Oklahoma Sooners softball game, the stadium didn't boo; they sang along. That viral display of grace has now earned the young Oklahoman the honor of becoming the first featured voice for Great American Media’s yearlong "America Sings the Anthem" initiative.

Starting July 4 at 6:00 a.m. ET, Burget’s rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner will debut on Great American Family, marking the beginning of a daily broadcast tradition. The network launched the project to commemorate the nation's 250th birthday by inviting everyday citizens, veterans, and community groups to share their own versions of the national anthem.

Great American Media CEO Bill Abbott pointed to Burget’s viral moment as the perfect embodiment of the project's intent. After the young singer stopped mid-performance due to a technical error, the crowd’s decision to support him rather than criticize him became a symbol of unity. This performance continues the company’s recent focus on faith-based and patriotic programming, following the success of their "America Reads the Bible" series. Throughout the coming year, the network plans to feature a rotating series of voices, aiming to highlight the stories and shared values of communities across the United States.
