Dr. Rosekind brings a unique background to the role, having served as the first sleep scientist on the National Transportation Safety Board and as the director of NASA’s Fatigue Countermeasures Program. His career has focused on bridging the gap between clinical research and practical safety applications across the aviation and highway transportation sectors. As a recipient of the Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award and a former board member, he is well-acquainted with the organization’s long-term goals.
National Sleep Foundation CEO John Lopos noted that Rosekind’s ability to translate complex sleep science into actionable policy is essential for the organization’s next phase of growth. The appointment follows the tenure of Steven E. Lerman, MD, MPH, who led the board through a period of expansion. Rosekind will now oversee a diverse board of clinicians, researchers, and public health experts as they continue to promote evidence-based sleep education and advocacy.
