The new center marks a significant migration for Reju’s scientific team, who previously operated out of IBM’s Almaden Research Center in San Jose. It was there that the company refined its Volcat depolymerization process, a catalytic method designed to break down polyester into high-quality raw materials. By relocating to Pennsylvania, the team gains direct access to Technip Energies’ decades of expertise in process development and technology integration.
Gregory Breyta, who leads R&D for the company, stated that the facility will manage the entire development spectrum, ranging from early-stage feasibility studies to kilo-scale production runs. The lab will focus on refining polyester recycling, developing solutions for mixed fabrics, and exploring new circular chemistry pathways. These efforts are intended to provide the technical validation required for Reju’s planned network of global Regeneration Hubs, including upcoming sites in the Netherlands, France, and Rochester, New York.
