IDI Expands Insulation Network with Design North Supply Acquisition

A strategic push into the Pacific Northwest and Alaska has begun as Minnesota-based IDI, Insulation Distributors, Inc., finalized its acquisition of Design North Supply. The deal folds the Billings-based distributor into IDI’s national infrastructure, extending the company’s reach across seven states and significantly broadening its available product portfolio.

IDI Expands Insulation Network with Design North Supply Acquisition

Design North Supply, established in 2020, brings a specialized focus on UPC spray foam, polyurea, and protective coatings to IDI’s operations. By absorbing the Montana and Anchorage-based distributor, IDI gains a foothold in regions previously difficult to serve, while current Design North clients retain their local contacts. The transition promises access to IDI’s wider inventory, which includes fiberglass, mineral wool, and cellulose insulation.

Chris Novogratz, President of IDI, pointed to the rapid growth of the Billings firm as a primary driver for the acquisition. For IDI, a family-owned business operating since 1979, the move represents a scaling of its 70-location national footprint. Both companies frame the integration as a cultural alignment, emphasizing shared service values and long-term support for regional contractors.
